The Gear

Last weekend DH and I went to brunch and then while walking around we passed by a baby store and decided to go in. DH teased me because all of the other women in there were heavily pregnant and I don't have a real baby bump yet. I have a teeny bump which is all bloat hehe. But I am nothing if not organized and I wanted to start checking out the gear.

I've spent this past year checking out the strollers I see most often on the street. We live in NYC so strollers here have to be pretty heavy duty since they get used so much. We have a car but rarely use it so our stroller doesn't need to be the type that folds up easily. These three were at the top of my list because I see them the most:

  Stokke Explory

Bugaboo Cameleon

Uppababy Vista

While all three have their plusses and minuses, DH and I both preferred the Stokke Explory. I was shocked that we actually agreed on something haha. Funny thing is, DH really got into it and was testing out all of the different attachments. I should have known he would be into gear :). The bugaboo just seemed too low to the ground and we didn't like the seat or bassinet on the Uppababy Vista. The Stokke seat and bassinet are so much more plush. The only negative about the Stokke is that there is no basket underneath. They have a new model called the Stokke Crusi with a really large basket that can also fit a second seat and turn into a double stroller. But it was just way too big and we're only at baby number one right now so we don't need the extra room. The bag that sits under the Stokke Explory is very roomy though and we'll be able to fit a lot in there.

So Stokke it is!! We both liked the grey melange fabric so that's what we're going with. Bonus is that the store has a 20% off coupon. We were going to wait until I'm a little further along but the store might be excluding Stokke from the coupon soon so we decided to go ahead and order it :).

The other large item we checked out was a crib. I have two favorites that I've had my eye on forever thanks to Pinterest and all the cute nursery ideas that are always on there.

Oeuf Classic Crib

Oeuf Sparrow Crib

For some reason I like the Sparrow crib better in photos but in person I preferred the Classic crib. I also love how the Classic converts to the cutest little toddler bed:

This is what the Sparrow Crib looks like as a toddler bed:

We also fell in love with the Mini Library shelving unit so we'll be adding that to our nursery as well but will order the darker walnut color:

We're going to wait to order the nursery furniture so I have time to decided between the Classic and Sparrow cribs. I came across another crib on pinterest that I really like. It's by Babyletto and the price point is so much better than the Oeuf cribs. I just need to see it in person.

6 Weeks

How far along: 6 weeks
Size of baby: a sweat pea .25 inches
Total weight gain/loss: still minus 5 lbs
Maternity clothes: not yet but my jeans are tight from bloat and I ordered a bella band
Movement: not yet
Sleep: still have insomnia. I've tried everything but I'm still waking up multiple times per night and can't sleep past 5 - 5:30am. I've started going to bed early at 9:30pm so I can at least log some more hours even if they are interrupted sleep
What I miss: sleeping
Cravings: yes! Still very much dependent on what I see. I'm having a hard time not reaching over to my friend's plates at lunch and stealing their food haha! It always seems like I want what they are having more.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Still having problems with strong smells, fragrances and cologne. I sat next to someone eating mushroom pizza this week and had to move tables. The subway is also making me nauseous. I never realized how much the subway cars sway. I've also developed an aversion to most meat and have to choke down protein when I can.
Symptoms: nausea, insomnia, burping (very attractive haha), cravings, food aversions, happiness!
Happy or Moody most of the time:  HAPPY!! but I can still be set off pretty easily. I have a much lower tolerance for annoying things lately.
Best Moment this week: Seeing our baby and the heartbeat at our first ultrasound!! One of the best days of my life.
What I'm looking forward to: Our second ultrasound next Tuesday :)

5 Weeks

How far along: 5 weeks
Size of baby: appleseed
Total weight gain/loss: still minus 5 lbs
Maternity clothes: not yet
Movement: not yet
Sleep: still having insomnia but I'm surprisingly wired during the day, even on very little sleep. I've been taking some great naps too.
What I miss: sleeping in past 5am
Cravings: still having intense cravings depending on what I see. I've been eating an insane amount of chipotle. Seriously, I cannot get enough mexican food lately haha. A couple of days ago I had lunch in the hospital cafeteria with my friend and when she sat down I realized she had gotten tacos from the taco bar and it was all I could do to stop myself from reaching over and grabbing one off her plate! I could barely concentrate on what we were talking about the craving was that bad haha!
Anything making you queasy or sick: strong fragrance is still doing a number on me as well as the motion from the elevator.
Symptoms: insomnia, nausea, strong sense of smell, sore and heavy feeling bbs, irritable a little more often but most all still experiencing extreme and utter happiness that I am finally pregnant!!
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY!! But don't make me mad or watch out!! I can go from zero to sixty and have told a couple of people off this week. They totally deserved it ;)
Best Moment this week: getting our third beta results of 3529!!
What I'm looking forward to: My ultrasound on June 11th

4 Weeks

How far along: 4 weeks + 3 days
Size of baby: poppyseed
Total weight gain/loss: loss of 5 lbs over the past week due to excitement and stress. I need to work on that!
Maternity clothes: Not yet
Movement: not yet
Sleep: Insomnia! I am barely averaging 4 hrs of sleep at night. I can't get to sleep and then when I do I wake up really early. Hopefully this will change soon.
What I miss: sleep
Cravings: intense cravings depending on what I see. We walked by a Subway on the way to the beach yesterday and suddenly I was in line ordering a foot long subway sandwich!! That was my first trip to Subway since high school haha! Also had an intense craving for stracciatella gelato and DH surprised me by bringing home a huge tub of it :).
Anything making you queasy or sick: strong perfume or cologne. The elevator trip can be especially painful in the morning when everyone is freshly showered and doused with fragrance. I also had some nausea at school this week but luckily was able to find some ginger ale and sip on it.
Symptoms: Insomnia, nausea, strong sense of smell, sore and heavy feeling bbs, extreme and utter happiness and amazement that I am finally pregnant :)
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY!!!
Best Moment this week: Finding out we're expecting and surprising DH :)
